Sapphire

Sought after throughout the
ages, Sapphire is the blue variety of the mineral corundum.
Historically, it has been
called the "celestial" symbol of the heavens, guardian of
innocence and bestower of truth the good health. While being prized for
its deep blue color, it comes in almost every color and in red it’s
called a Ruby.
As ruby its sister stone the
sapphire is prized for it hardness and durability as a gemstone. With a
Moh’s hardness of (9) only second to the hardest gem the Diamond at
Moh’s (10) it makes an excellent choice for the finest everyday
jewelry.
Blue Sapphire is among the most
sought after members of the sapphire family- especially the gems from
Burma and Kashmir, which are the closest to pure blue in color.
